Making a TYPO…

From season to season we are faced with new collections of various prints and patterns.  This season is no different with the arrival of Topshop’s www.topshop.com  ‘Typography’ print.  Lettering within lettering is printed onto clothing and really makes for an interesting new design for Spring!!

First of all this skirt is midi length…the single most flattering length skirt on ANYONE…so I am instantly drawn to it!!  Usually any item of clothing that has anything written on it is a no no for me, but this skirt I love!! I think it is the fact that other than being used as a pattern, the lettering is not making a statement.  The use of just black and white on this piece makes it a classic design, if colour had been used within this pattern it might have ended up bordering on tacky. What makes this piece for me is the use of lettering within lettering, merging the black base colour of the skirt with the inner lettering.  If the white lettering was printed on its own, the print would have stood out too much and for me, and would have lost its sophisticated appeal!

The above pieces carry on the ‘typography’ pattern and I again, really enjoy them both!!  The sheer shirt on the left can be dressed up with a blazer and high-waisted suit trousers or dressed down over some black skinnies.  The top on the left however is definitely a more casual piece.  Wear with skinnies (red if your daring enough), or a skater style skirt and converse for a more laid back look!!

I am usually one to shy away from crazy patterns like these, but the use of minimalist colours i.e black and white really makes them wearable!! Xx
